This 20,000 sf beachfront parcel included an existing, single-story plantation style home. The new owners liked the quiet family character of the house, but wanted to contemporize, re-organize, and expand the house.
Space-planning redesigned the entire house layout, introducing a covered outdoor lanai and a new upper level master suite. The re-design led to a full demolition, saving only the foundation and the roof, into which the new second floor master suite / lanai was inserted.
The new master gives an elevated ocean view amidst a mature grove of palm trees. And from the master bathroom, a glassed shower and freestanding tub introduce views towards the Koolau mountain range framed by open corner window bays.
At beach level, new space planning enabled seamless indoor – outdoor transitions with full width openings. Modern elements such as the hanging stair and custom-designed vanities/ mirrors were introduced to create modernist ‘statements’ for the owner’s everyday delight.
