The site was a former power plant serving Beijing’s central city. Constructed to serve an expanding business district, the paired Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott hotels are part of a SOM designed urban office/hotel masterplan.
The JW Marriott has 600+ rooms spread over 23 floors, with sub-grade ballroom, meeting, and function areas. Food and beverage and lounge spaces were strategically oriented towards the compound’s central gardens, enabling easy mobility and visual connections.
Inside, the public main level transitions to more private guest and function spaces via a series of portals and stairs to eliminate physical barriers while creating a sense of inner sanctum for guests. From there, guest amenity spaces like spa, gyms, and pools are further internalized and incorporate unique lighting design to simulate or replace natural light.
